1920s periwinkle glass bead dress
1920s periwinkle glass bead dress
available is a magical 1920s art deco periwinkle sheer glass bead dress. this dress features art deco-style stitching, a low open back and hanging glass beads that almost look like scales and gives the dress a mermaid vibe and swings beautifully as you walk and move. the glass bead work was done by hand and one can see the amount of labour that went into it. the simple shape of the dress balances the busier glass bead design but the way it slinks on the body makes the piece super chic. the fabric feels like a silk blend (it feels strengthened by whatever it was blended with-- silks from this age tend to feel more fragile and it feels too soft to be completely synthetic) and holds all the beads up very well.
can fit a range of sizes. in amazingly excellent condition - incredibly sturdy and well preserved for age. there is some very very subtle discoloration from aging around the bust, which doesn't show when on the body because the material is so sheer (there are close up photos of the bust on the dress form) there are a few minor marks and small hand mends.
(the fabric expands a bit so difficult to measure 100% accurately but the dress is meant to hang away from the body so the approximate measurements should be sufficient- the measurements were taken laying flat and expanded but the measurements are different when hanging. the dress has some weight and should hang to fit most sizes)
